AMETHYST PRINCESS OF GEMWORLD N°9 (September 1985)

This time, it's for real! Ernie Colon is back as the ongoing penciller on the Amethyst serie. Dan Mishkin left the title, letting Gary Cohn alone, struggling to bring the old magic back: it's no secret that Dan & Gary felt that they did not have enought time to think of what they wanted to do with the ongoing Amethyst, born just right after the end of the successfull maxi-serie.

The good surprise is to see Karl Kesel inks mixing so well with Ernie's pencils: the inking is soft, precise and doesn't had texture everywhere. Ernie's work on this issue is a little unusual: big panels, big figures, very few details: it seems like an exercise in simplicity and efficiency. The result is quite enjoyable, even if a little disturbing at first. It's so good to see some crazyness coming back to this title. Check this amazing double page and dare tell me you can't be happy that Ernie returned to "save" the title?
