AMETHYST PRINCESS OF GEMWORLD SPECIAL (October 1986)

As I said before, this Special is in fact issue 17 of the ongoing serie (it is referred as issue 17 in the letter page), published with a short 8 story page by the upcoming new team working on a future 4 issues Amethyst mini-serie.

For the time being, Mindy Newell and Keith Giffen wraps everything up as best as they can, dooming poor Amy as she has a final confrontation with Flaw and Child. The ending is really heartbreaking, not happy at all, attuned to the really dark tone the title has been turned into since issue 9.

Prepare to be really disapointed by the art, not at all up to the standart of the last bunch of issues. Pablo Marcos is doing the inking, a pretty heavy job: he's probably redrawing a lot of the faces and/or working with very loose pencils from Ernie. Really, it's difficult to recognize Ernie on those pages, except in this simple yet so effective 9 panel grid scene, wrapping up the cheating dad subplot.All the rest is a huge disapointment visually: no details, no backgrounds, and some really weird looking body or face expressions. It would be interesting to see Ernie original pencils on this one. Even the cover is the weakest we have seen so far.
