A mistake I often read in articles on the web about Ernie Colon or Amethyst is that Ernie Colon wasn't involved with the ongoing serie following the successfull 12-part maxi-serie. This couldn't be further from the truth. If Ernie wasn't the first ongoing penciller of the ongoing serie, he quickly came back, along with Keith Giffen, to revitalize the title and, in the process, create a huge rift among fans. Frankly, I can't understand how some people can be pissed about it: Ernie was back, and Keith Giffen wrote engaging and heartbreaking stories, making the title renew his connection to horror and weirdness. Anyway, that's not the point here.
What you see up here is a promotional ad to engage reader into buying the Amethyst Annual, making the bridge beetween the 12 part maxi-serie and the ongoing serie to follow. and of course, who else but Ernie to pencil it? I have yet to find a DC comics from this period containing this ad, so it doesn't seem to have been used a lot. Edit: at least in DC sampler #2 in 1984, and that's all, thanks to Jason Wortham for the info!
But that's a blast, to say the least!
