Unpublished MONTAGE COVER

This awesome piece is a gift from Ernie. When I went to see him at his place during an USA trip in 2013, he kept saying "take it" as I was flipping throught many pages of original art which I took the picture of. He probably said it to me 3-4 times but I kept making as if I was deaf: that wasn't what I was here for, I didn't want to take advantage of Ernie's kindness.

But the moment I saw this piece, I couldn't restrain another big "Wow!" of admiration. This unused cover (for a magazine if I recall correctly what Ernie could remember of it) is made of two parts. First, the drawing on a standart drawing paper of a soldier guy. Then, behind it, on a piece of tracing paper, a painted (traced with marquers?) demon head, with a blank ghost figure in the exact shape of the guy.

Obiviously, one is supposed to be on top of the other to make it a finished piece, as Ernie wrote it with a commentary note. Weirdly enougth, the two pieces were stappled together, but in the wrong order. I had to unstappled them to make it like it was supposed to be. And Tadaaa!

Since then, it has been on one of my walls. Recently, I figured out it looked way better with a red background wall, as you can clearly see on the first picture. The final result is probably not 100% what Ernie had in mind -the guy was probably meant to be colored in the end- but seeing that it seems that the contractor bailed out, it was never quite finished for publication. That still makes it quite an unusual daring piece of art!
